Community of Intentional Success
Matthew Kelly, Catholic writer, has encouraged readers in many of his books and articles to “be the best version of themselves.” As parents, no matter where our children are in the educational process, we want that for them. To make wise choices, to work hard and to develop the talents our Lord has given them. The process of growth cannot be done without the efforts of others. This is the wonderful thing about Cabrini, the focus on community and the belief that students will be cared for and nurtured.
The Community of Intentional Success, or CIS as it is commonly referred to, is a support system for students demonstrating a need for assistance. Students selected to participate in this initiative are chosen based on their academic need as noted on report cards or behavioral concerns that can be addressed through additional support from staff members.
Why is CIS such a vital and promising initiative? We know that the more connections students make in school, the better chance they have at succeeding. Dr. Liz Grouw’s research shows that “Both parents and educators have a large stake in children's success and the linkages promoted to facilitate it.” CIS is one of these vital linkages. You can’t go wrong with the ancillary benefits of developing professional relationships with students and fostering an opportunity develop career goals and aspirations.
We have a dedicated and very capable group of men and women serving as team leaders for the Community of Intentional Success. Our high school has a team leader for each grade: Ms. Nancy Lukasiewicz, Ms. Donna Sweeney, Ms. Cheryl Szczodrowski and Mr. James Wasukanis. Mentors work in partnership with our team leaders to provide an additional level of support.
All of the CIS meetings are scheduled on an individual basis. Team leaders spend time speaking with students about their grades, hopes and aspirations and any challenges they are facing. This supportive environment is the foundational element for improvement.
